Patrick is a licensed professional engineer in more than 35 states in the United States.

Kurt is an ITT Technical Institute graduate with a degree in applied computer-aided drafting technology. Kurt has 24 years of experience in AutoCAD drafting for a wide range of projects. He assists the civil and structural disciplines in the preparation of detailed plans.

Matt is a graduate of Michigan Technological University with a degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering. Along with his structural background, he has worked on many site civil and construction related projects, including site operations, inspection, and project reviews. Matt brings a practical and team oriented approach to firm. He is a licensed professional engineer and a licensed residential builder in the State of Michigan.

Eric is a graduate of Arizona State University with a degree in civil engineering and sustainability. Before MEI, Eric has gained over 10 years in the engineering and design industries. He is a licensed professional engineer in AZ, FL, MI, and NJ. At MEI, Eric works with our team members and clients to ensure smooth transactions from customer desires to innovative solution delivery.
Sharon A. Bouwense
Administrative Assistant
Sharon plays a vital role in the operational maintenance and aids the Principal with necessary organizational activities. Sharon has implemented and currently maintains the business’ accounting software, Ajera. She handles all business invoicing, payroll, and licensing upkeep.
BRETT T. JOHNSON, P.E.

Brett is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in civil engineering. He has over six years of experience in the design of deep foundations, with an emphasis in helical piles and micropiles. Brett is a licensed professional engineer in MT and a licensed drone operator. At MEI, he actively participates in projects, collaborating with the Principal, and employs an innovative problem-solving approach. Brett is also a licensed drone operator.
JAMES J. COUGHLIN, P.E.

Jim is a graduate of Michigan State University with a Master’s Degree in Structures with an emphasis in structural vibrations. Previously, he was a professor of engineering and physics at Northwestern Michigan College for 34 years and is now retired. He provides solutions to complex structural problems, performs pier reviews, and FEA models. Jim is a licensed professional engineer and a licensed residential builder in the State of Michigan.

Stephanie is a graduate of Michigan Technological University with a degree in business management and an MBA from Capella University. Prior to MEI, Stephanie gained over 14 years of experience in the insurance industry with a focus on people leadership, developing strategic vision, and project management. Her true passion is helping people realize their full potential in their career, implementing efficiencies, and piloting new concepts. Stephanie’s primary focus is managing business operations.

Project Designer
Jonathan joined the team with over 18 years of experience in Autodesk drafting, with an emphasis in the architectural and fabrication disciplines. He has extensive experience using 3D modeling software that produces detailed renderings for visual presentations. Jonathan works closely with the Senior Project Designer to ensure all clients expectations are met.
